Every patient has their own individual needs for plastic surgery. Reshaping the buttock to the region of one's body can be performed by a procedure called the buttock lift. Depending on the patient, sometimes liposuction and implants are also used to compliment the procedure and produce a more desirable shape.

Patients who have a large amount of loose skin on their buttock region are perfect candidates for a buttock lift. This procedure helps remove excess fat from the body but will sometimes leave behind loose skin that has lost its elasticity. On the other hand, some patients desire a fuller buttock shape which requires the use of implants. These implants are made of a material that can't rupture, deflate or spill. This procedure is referred to as buttock augmentation.

Buttock lifts have gained popularity in the United States as of late. There has been a 152% increase in these procedures between 2002 and 2004. In 2004 there were approximately 4000 buttock lift procedures performed.
